How can a Music Therapist help your child?
During childhood, children take in physical, emotional, social and cognitive information and language from their experiences and their environment.
Music therapy delivers opportunities to encourage general development through music making methods and play with activities such as instrumental play, singing, listening to music, song writing, sensory play, and movement.
Some goal areas music therapy can target in your child’s lifelong learning include:
What does a Music Therapist do?
Music therapists are trained with advanced musicianship and therapeutic training to assess and provide music therapy to children experiencing difficulties in communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and sensory and motor integration.
A music therapist will consider and assess your child’s goals and your concerns to create an individualised therapy plan in collaboration with your family and other therapists.
At Chatterbox, we acknowledge that every child is unique and different. We are here to guide you and your family and provide regular support for your child’s needs. Our passionate (and fun!) Paediatric Music Therapists collaborate with those most important in your child’s life to adapt and implement individual goals for your child. By working together as a team and following our recommendations, we will ensure that your child can achieve their goals as quickly as possible.
We want the best for your family. Our music therapists are kind and caring. They are passionate about working with children and helping your child to realise their true potential.
Our clinics provide a warm and friendly environment where your child’s needs will be supported and their progress will be celebrated. All of our Music Therapists share a passion for working with children and families to best support their learning goals through music.
Our Music Therapists are committed to empowering children and families with skills which foster learning and encourage your child to join in on activities at home and within the community.
They provide care for children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), difficulties in social and play skills, self-regulation, emotional regulation, behaviour, fine and gross motor skills, wellbeing, self-confidence, and self-expression.
Who will be my child’s music therapist?
Your child and your family are important to us, and we want to help your child reach their potential.
You will see the same therapist every time you visit us at the clinic. This means that your child and family become familiar with the therapist who will lead your child’s health journey. This also means the therapist will become familiar with how your child learns as their skills change and develop.
All our therapists have a Master of Music Therapy degree and are members of the professional body, the Australian Music Therapy Association.
Our therapists have experience working with children of all ages.
Our therapists are required to continually update their skills. They attend regular Professional Development Workshops and Professional Conferences so that they can continue to provide the Chatterbox community with the most up-to date, research-based therapy.
Don’t wait. Early intervention has been proven to help children achieve their best both now and for later success
In general, communication difficulties do not just ‘go away’. Your child is not having these difficulties because they are lazy. You may find they are starting to avoid situations where they have to be around others, talk, or will become frustrated when they have to do their homework.
This is because it is simply hard for them. A parent does not cause their child to have these difficulties, however a parent who has found the right advice and support can help their child to achieve success.
